CASE STUDY

STUDIO DIGITAL STORAGE SYSTEM

The Goal

Develop a studio-grade commercial digital storage system.
The Challenge

The system must interface with several types of units and process the data quickly. Because it operates at high speeds, the heat generated in the unit is also high and needs to be dissipated.

The unit needs to meet the everyday handling demands of a professional studio.

The Solution

  1. A thermal analysis was performed to determine the greatest heat loads and then the internal layout was designed to minimize "hotspots" and flow impedance.
  2. The unit was prototyped to simulate the heat load and airflow paths.
  3. The external parts and interfaces were structurally analyzed and the plastic parts and hinges were designed with a sufficient margin of safety.
The Results

The system has been installed in several studios without any returns due to thermal problems or breakage.
